Balkh Hash Plant is one of the most well-known Afghan cannabis strains, and it’s said to have been grown for centuries. This legendary strain has been used to make some of the most renowned hashish in the world.
Afghanistan has a longstanding tradition of hash that dates back to antiquity. Furthermore, there are many excellent varieties of sieved hashish such as the popular “Milk of Mazar” and the “Old Golden One.” The city of Balkh is said to be where Baba Ku, a famous healer who first brought cannabis to Afghanistan, is buried.
Landrace Genetics, a central Asian landrace expert, personally acquired these regular marijuana seeds near the city of Balkh in 2018. The Khalifa team has since been adapting this strain to growing indoors by reducing hermaphroditism, decreasing the amount of undesirable phenotypes, while preserving a lot of genetic diversity. Thanks to its high genetic diversity, the Balkh landrace can be extremely useful to pheno hunters and breeders looking for rare gems.
This Balkh cultivar is easy to grow and flowers relatively quickly. At first the plants all look very similar. As they flower, they start displaying a wide array of aromas, shapes and colours. Not unlike other Northern Afghan heirloom strains, the plants can have broad to narrow leaves. The fastest flowering phenotypes usually display broad leaflets and are medium producers. However, the longer flowering plants can be very high yielders. As they flower, about 10% of the Balkh landrace plants gradually turn black. Towards the end of the flowering cycle, some of the plants are completely black both on the leaves and flowers. These Afghani plants are low-maintenance and moderate feeders, they need less fertilizer than most modern hybrids.
Although the buds can end up being quite heavy, the plants rarely need support. Their frame is very sturdy with a large, robust main stem. The stems are so thick and hard that the plants could easily support 4x more weight! For that reason, Balkh Hash Plant can withstand very high winds.
Similar to other pure Afghan landraces, this variety typically produces a very clear stone and pleasant body relaxation. Unlike many modern Indica-dominant hybrids, the effect isn’t couch lock but relaxing and insightful. Potency vary according to the THC:CBD ratio. The plants range from high CBD-low THC all the way to low CBD-high THC.

I got them as a freebie and i like what i see. The seeds where very healthy, they germinated quickly and show strong growth.
My favorite Afghani. An easy and rewarding choice.
9 of 12 emerged (75%). 2 did not survive emergence. 3 males and 4 females, a good mix. Females stretch 2.5x, males 3x. No hermaphrodism. No disease, pest, or nutrient issues. 11 weeks for seed, otherwise 9 weeks. Good variety of aromas: mint, pine, burnt rubber, sweet vomit, citrus, skunk, sharp acrid chemical, lime, Lestoil; sweet fruity earthy, banana nutty. Each of the females have something to offer. And, as often happens, the lone runty one was the best. On the other hand, the densest biggest specimen had the weakest effect, but is great for daily use while still being functional (suspect higher CBD). Overall, none are a sleepy effect when fresh, but becomes more sleepy as it ages. Otherwise it ages well. Effect averages from 1-3 hours (mostly 1.5-2), with additional lasting minor effects. Although, one acts for precisely 2.5 hours, every single time. Weird. Recommended.
